CommVault Systems, Inc. is a publicly traded company (NASDAQ: CVLT) based in Oceanport, New Jersey. It was initially established in 1988 as a development group within Bell Labs, and later designated as a strategic business unit of AT&T Network System. It was incorporated as an independent company in 1996.
In 1997 CommVault launched Vault 98. It was the only suite of storage management products specifically designed for complex, heterogeneous environments. Galaxy 1.1 was introduced in 2000 as the first management solution built from the ground up on Microsoft Windows platform. CommVault introduced QiNetix™ 5 in 2003. This integrated email archiving with backup/recovery, migration, replication and storage management to manage data throughout its lifecycle.
A noted event occurred in the company’s history in 2006 when CommVault started trading on NASDAQ under CVLT.
Currently, the firm’s trademark product is Simpana software, a scalable, unified data and information management software designed to replace many products. CommVault’s Simpana software platform offers one management console for administering integrated, licensable modules for backup and recovery, archive, replication, resource management and search capabilities in virtualized and physical IT environments.
The Simpana software provides backup and recovery, snapshot management, virtual machine integration, replication, OnePass backup and archive, deduplication, reporting and insights, workflow automation, content-based retention, self-service access, search and eDiscovery, legal hold, and ContentStore.
CommVault also offers solutions such as Data & Information Management which includes Modernized Backup and Recovery, Accelerate Disaster Recovery, Protect and Manage Virtual Machines, Optimize and Protect Applications, Reduce Hardware Spend, Leverage Cloud Infrastructure, Empower Mobile Workforce, Control and Use Big Data, and Simplify Archive for Search and Compliance.
