U.S. Silica Holdings, Inc. used to be known as GGC USS Holdings, Inc. The firm has headquarters in Frederick, Maryland and is a subsidiary of GGC USS Holdings, LLC.  It is a silica sand supplier and boasts of an over 100 year track record of innovation in industrial silica products and solutions.

U.S.  Silica Holdings is a leading producer of industrial materials, including sand proppants, whole grain silica, ground silica, fine ground silica, calcined kaolin clay and aplite clay. The firm offers more than two hundred products in these categories.

The company operates as a research and development specialist as well for customized products and solutions using the same raw materials. U.S. Silica serves a wide range of industries and applications such as oil and gas, glass, chemical, foundry, building products, fillers and extenders, recreation, industrial filtration and treatment, and testing and analysis.  The firm has a fast expanding market share as a supplier of domestic oil and natural gas operations. It provides whole grain commercial silica products as fracturing sand in connection with oil and natural gas recovery. It also offers its products to the foundry and building products industry.

The company sells its whole grain silica products in various size distribution, grain shapes, and chemical purity level for manufacturing glass products. It sells ground commercial silica products for use in plastic, rubber, polishes, cleansers, paints, glazes, textile fiberglass, and precision castings. It offers fine ground silica for use in premium paints, specialty coatings, sealants, silicone rubber, and epoxies.

The firm also offers other industrial mineral products like aplite, a mineral to produce container glass and insulation fiberglass. It produces as well absorbent made from a mixture of silica and magnesium for preparative and analytical chromatography applications.

U.S. Silica operates in two segments namely: oil and gas, and industrial and specialty products. Its shipping operations include five of the class-one railroads, barge, full truckload, partial truckload and intermodal.
