Proto Labs: Faster
Speed is important. We declare winners those who cross the finish line first in any race. In the business world speed also counts but there must also be accuracy and quality of service. Proto Labs was established because the founder wanted things to be faster.
Larry Lukis was co-founder of successful $100 million company that wanted to design a better printer and was hit by the time and money it took to get the injection molded parts. As a result Larry developed an automated process for producing injection-molded parts in a fraction of the time and cost it had taken before.
Thus The Protomold Company was founded in 1999 by Larry which was the precursor of Proto Labs. The company went public in 2012. Today, Proto Labs, Inc. with its subsidiaries manufactures computer numerical control (CNC) machined and injection molded customs parts for prototyping and short-run production. The firm’s main manufacturing services include Firstcut, a CNC machining service; and Protomoid, an aluminum injection molding service. Proto Lab serves product developers who use three-dimensional computer-aided design software to design products across a range of end-markets.
