May 22, 2014

Questcor Pharmaceuticals, Inc is a biopharmaceutical company that was founded in 1990 and based in Anaheim, California. The firm concentrates on the treatment of patients with serious, difficult-to-treat autoimmune and inflammatory disorders.

Questcor’s main products is H.P. Acthar Gel (repository corticotrophin injection), or Acthar, an injectable drug that is approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA), for the treatment of 19 indications. This drug is used to induce a dieresis or a remission of proteinuria in the nephritic syndrome without uremia of the idiopathic type or that due to lupus erythematosus.

The firm’s research and development program is focused on: the evaluation of the use of Acthar for certain on-label indications; the investigation of other potential uses of Acthar for indications not FDA approved and the expansion of its understanding of how Acthar works in the human body (pharmacology), and ultimately, its mechanisms of action in the disease states for which it is used, or may be used in the future.

The company sells Doral to pharmaceutical wholesalers, which resell Doral primarily to retail pharmacies and hospitals.

Taking on a challenging disorder the company has carved a niche for itself and isn’t sitting on its laurels continuing to do research on the usefulness of its product.
