HP Hood: The Company That Dairy Built
HP Hood is a national branded dairy operator and distributor of milk, cultured foods, citrus, extended shelf-life dairy, frozen desserts and non-dairy and specialty drinks. It is headquartered in Lynnfield Massachusetts. The firm (under license) processes branded products such as Lactaid, Stonyfield Farm Organic Milk, Southern Comfort Eggnog, Fiber One Cottage Cheese and Milkshakes, and Almond Breeze Almondmilk.
The company’s annual sales is around $2billion and employs about 3,000 people. Its customers include chains and independent retailers, convenience stores and foodservice channels. The firm is one of the largest branded dairy operators in the U.S. with 15 manufacturing plants throughout the country. HP Hood also maintains its own research and development operations.
HP Hood has been around for quite some time, more than 160 years in fact. It’s actually much older than some of the multibillion dollar companies in existence today. Properly managed a company in the food business can be in existence and prosper for a very long time.
HP Hood was founded by Harvey Perley Hood in Charlestown, Massachusetts in 1846. The Kaneb family now own and run this multibillion dollar operation.
