Skadden, Arps: Power Law Firms
There are some law firms that are known to be powerful with influential people inside the company. Very few have grown in size as Skadden, Arps, Meagher & Flom LLP and Affiliates (often shorten to Skadden Arps; Skadden or SASM&F).
The law firm has headquarters in New York City and was founded in 1948 by Marshall Skadden, John Slate and Les Arps. It is one of the worlds’ most prestigious, highest-grossing and largest law firms. It has close to 2,000 lawyers. The total number of employees is around 4,500. Every year since 2001 the firm has been named as America’s best Corporate Law firm.
Many law firms have introduced two-tier partnerships with equity and non-equity partners. Skadden on the other hand maintains a one-tier partnership. All the partners are equity partners and share ownership of the company. As of February 2011 Skadden had 423 partners.
The firm has notable partners such as: Greg Craig, former White House Counsel to President Obama and heads the firm’s global policy and litigation strategy group; and Bruce Buck, chairman of Chelsea Football Club and partner in charge of the European offices of the firm.
