JE Dunn: Construction Legacy
John Ernest “Ernie” Dunn founded JE Dunn Construction Company in 1924 in Kansas City, Missouri. It was a small, family-run residential contractor. The company rolled and somehow managed to grow with the times. It was involved in the war effort, persevered through difficult economic times and turmoil.
In 1964 Ernie Dunn passed away. At that time the net worth of the company was $1.4 million with 35 employees. The number of projects as well as the size increased over the next ten years and the firm became one of the largest construction companies in Kansas City.
As part of its natural growth process JE Dunn Construction expanded beyond the borders of Kansas City. Through organic growth and acquisitions the company grew much larger. By 2012 it was ranked the twelfth largest general building company in the U.S. Annual revenue is in excess of $2 billion and the firm has offices in 20 locations coast-to-coast.
The firm’s projects include healthcare facilities, commercial offices, data centers, hotels, correctional facilities and more. It is still family-run and owned.
