Univision Communications: Hispanic Media

The U.S. is a multicultural country and one group that is distinct, significant in terms of population, and has kept their culture and language is the Hispanics. Their large population also makes them an attractive market. One company that is focused in this demographic segment is Univision Communication, Inc. It is an American Spanish language media company which has headquarters in Midtown Manhattan, New York City.

The company was founded by businessman A. Jerrold Perenchio, Televisa and Venevision in 1992 when Univision Network was acquired from Hallmark Cards. Univision Communications, Inc. traded in the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol UVN from September 1996 to April 2007.  The firm was sold in March 2007 to Broadcasting Media Partners, Inc. which included Madison Dearborn Partners, LLC, Providence Equity Partners Inc., TPG Capital, LP, Thomas H. Lee Partners, LP, and Saban Capital Group, Inc. This effectively turned Univision Communications into a private company.

Univision is a diversified company with interests in television, radio and the internet. The Univision Network is the most-watched Spanish language television network in the U.S. It reaches 97 percent of Hispanic households. The firm had revenue of $2.44 billion in 2012.
