Kum & Go: Convenience And Gas
You’ve heard of the phrase “come and go”. Well there’s a convenience store and gas station company which operates mainly in the Midwestern United States that sound just like it. Taking a cue from the phrase founders William A. Krause and Tony S. Gentle used the first letters of their surnames to come up with Kum & Go.
The company which is based in West Des Moines, Iowa was founded in 1959. It started out as the Hampton Oil Company, in Hampton, Iowa which eventually became the Krause Gentle Corporation, the parent company of Kum & Go. The firm introduced its first convenience stores in 1963, selling both fuel and merchandise items.
To unify the company’s group of stores under a single brand the Kum & Go name was introduced in 1975. The son of William A. Krause, Klye is now the company president and CEO. Kum & Go is currently the fifth largest privately held, company-operated convenience store chain in the U.S. It has more than 420 convenience stores in 11 states namely Iowa, Arkansas, Colorado, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota and Wyoming.
It may have the name Kum & Go but by the looks of it the company will be here to stay for quite some time.
