Maine Paper & Food Service: Candies And More

August 23, 2013

Big things start from small beginnings as the saying goes. This is how Maine Paper & Food Service began.  Maines Candy Company was founded by Floyd L. Maines, Sr. in 1919 selling candy to local grocers. Later the company expanded its product offering with food service items. The firm changed its name to Maines Paper& Food Service in the 1970s.

The company is now a large US foodservice supplier having a dozen distribution centers catering to the needs of customers in 36 states. Its area of coverage encompasses the Eastern Seaboard to the Upper Midwest.  Maines Paper & Food Service offers a wide range of items such as frozen foods, dry goods, beverage, and meat. It also offers janitorial supplies, food packaging, and kitchen equipment. The company’s Produce Express division provides more than 400 fresh produce items.

The firm’s customers include convenience stores, fast food and casual dining establishments, schools and other institutional food service operators. The enterprise is still family owned and the key people in the company still bear the Maines surname.
