Dealing With More Than Just Coats

Burlington Coat Factory gives the impression that it manufactures and sells coats only. It is actually into other items not just coats. Burlington Coat Factory Warehouse Corporation traces its roots all the way back to 1924 when it began as a wholesaler of ladies coats and junior suits.  The company opened its first outlet store in Burlington, New Jersey in 1972.

Of course coats were the main offering. Through the years the company added more products until it turned into a one-stop shopping concept. Today if offers a wide selection of men’s and women’s suits, sportswear, shoes, and accessories. Then the firm added baby and youth lines of products. The company later began offering linen.

Burlington Coat Factory has more than 475 no-frills retail stores offering off-price current, brand name clothing in around 45 states and Puerto Rico. It is one of the country’s largest coat sellers.  As a national chain it offers current, high quality, designer merchandise at prices up to 70 percent below those of other department stores.

A typical Burlington Coat Factory store is 80,000 square feet-more than twice the size of most off-price competitors. The company has sales of almost $4 billion and became privately owned when it was purchased by Bain Capital in 2006.
