It All Began With Ammonia

You can tell by its name that it had to do something with ammonia. Transammonia was founded in 1965 with the purpose of engaging in the international trade of ammonia. The company owner and founder is Ronald Stanton who is also the chairman and CEO. It is headquartered in New York City.

Over its more than 46 years of existence Transammonia expanded to other businesses.  The company engaged in worldwide merchandising and trading of fertilizer in 1967. It also began global trading of LPG in 1978. Through a joint venture with Sinochem it was able to enter the Chinese fertilizer market in 1992. Trammo Petroleum, based in Houston, Texas began operation in 2002 merchandising and trading crude oil and refined products.

Today the Transammonia Group comprises Transammonia which the leading independent marketer and transporter of fertilizer raw materials, fertilizers, and ammonia in the world; Trammochem which merchandises and trades petrochemicals; Trammo Gas which is into LPG merchandising and trading in the U.S. market; and Sea-3 which is the largest importer and distributor of liquefied propane in the Northeastern U.S. The companies within the Group are legally separate entities they are not part of a single entity or one member controlling another.

With 400 employees from 20 different nationalities in 30 cities around the world, Transammonia (the Group) had total turnover of $11.3 billion in 2011.
